One of the downtown churches used to have a catered sit-down luncheon for
the staff (white tablecloth, candles, silver service and open bar, serving
platters carried 'round the table by the catering staff) once a month. That
disappeared from the budget with the rector's retirement circa 1985, when
the endowment was discovered to be *much* smaller than had been reported.
