There are parishes that commune the choir last or have them come up individually
rather than as a group -- especially for those with family members in the
congregation so that they may receive together as a couple or a family.
Some have the choir do their communion anthem while the disabled and other who
can’t make it up the steps to the altar first because as a parish they are
adamant about inclusiveness which means not treating the disabled like
leftovers as an afterthought.
Of course, most parishes do what they've "always done" because being intentional
about the Sunday morning liturgy would cause all manner of "pastoral problems"
