Dear ones,

I did not "win the lottery" for a ticket to the Presiding Bishop-Elect
Michael Curry event. Some favorite times have been meeting list sibs
at the National Cathedral for various events. Disappointed to miss it.

Prayers for comfort for my father Alan Soukup requested. My father's
health has been declining. At 92, he has not only slowed down but
nearly stopped - just in time to miss his Honor Flight (as a WWII Navy
Veteran, deployed on a mine sweeper in the Pacific) to Washington, DC.
He is no longer able to live at home under my brother's loving care.
He has a space in a VA home, but is not currently well enough to be
transferred.

Prayers for thanksgiving for my mother-in-law Shirley Grover. Her
health has been declining. She had a blood clot in her femoral artery
and refused to have it treated. Her children and grandchildren were
all notified, some visits, many phone calls & packages, she received a
lot of attention. She has rallied and her spirits and health have
improved. We are amazing creatures!

Prayers for the rector search for Trinity Episcopal Church,
Washington, VA. We have a good interim rector, Bill Queen from
Richmond, VA, thank you to the hard work Michael Mahoney put in as the
Senior Warden last year. There is a lot yet to do. May our rural
parish continue to do well in a very small county where the only
demographic increase is "young" retired people.

Finally, prayers of encouragement and discernment for my daughter
Samantha Landrum. She returns home in November from far northern
Arizona, where she has been working at Lees Ferry Lodge for almost 2
years. She is mostly recovered from her disastrous first semester at
college (during which a very evil thing happened to her, shattering
her sense of self and self worth). She may stay in Virginia rather
than return to Arizona. A mother can only hope and pray for the best.
