My brother adopted the butchy-sloth refusal to learn to cook
UNTIL
he got a job in a restaurant (around age seventeen or so).

Suddenly, seeing men working hard together to produce
DELICIOUS FOOD,
his team spirit kicked in
and he learned (in short order) to cook, too.

It's all culture.
