I have to say K quickly or they'll start writing an N:
"Knitter...that's K! N I T T E R. Then I see they've written Kritter
or Niter or something and have to work with them to achieve the
correct spelling. I've even seen someone write N I G G ... before I
shouted "Stop!"
I've also tried, "Knitter, as in 'one who knits,'" but this gets blank
stares, generally. Sad.
The local Chinese restaurant delivers our orders with a receipt that
indicates my name is KEITGER. The orders always get here, so we leave
it alone.
