Re Canada: Just tried to change my adddress online. They have stopped
the Quick Fix feature and amongst other things they wanted to know the
dollar figure on line 115 of my 2013 tax return. Seriously! it was
easier to just mail them the darn form and hope it takes root
somewhere. Separately I have endeavoured to tell Elections Canada that
I have moved. I am not confident that I have succeeded. Honestly, if I
were an elderly woman from Whoknowswhere and English not my first
language, I couldn't have begun to understand the instructions. Not
sure that I was able to get it right. I will follow up from other
directions as it has never been more important to stand up and be
counted!!!!

The system has changed in the past couple of years but not that significantly as far as I can tell, at least for the initial stage. The head of household signs to say who living there is entitled to vote and returns the form in a pre-paid envelope - or does it on line as I did last week.

You tick the box that you are entitled to vote and your name goes on the electoral register. It keeps it pretty up to date for most people as even those with very low incomes or on welfare get a basic $75 tax rebate as long as they file. Changes can be done online and at the returning office during a writ period.
