As I reported a few weeks ago, we had a same-sex wedding at St Luke's using the
BCP Marriage Rite with pronouns changed.
Yesterday, we had a Commitment Ceremony -- the couple are members of St
Stephen's (I realize David like to call it the "Prop Cathedral" but most folk
around here make gagging faces if you use that appellation) <g>; We had their
organist, members of their choir and lots of other people up from Wilkes Barre.
The church was packed.
The the marriage part was strictly the approved "Commitment Ceremony -
."Blessing of a Lifelong Covenant" rather than the Marriage Rite, (which I've
noticed is determinately Inclusive l;language as opposed to out old
paternalistic Rite II).
Otoh, the Eucharist was mostly 1928, complete with Healey Willan AND the prayer
of Humble Excess.
IIWKOTF, I'd go to SLM or somesuch for the Eucharist when using the "Blessing"
texts; the Marriage Rite is fine as either Rite I or Rite II, I think, though
the Supplementary Liturgical Material approach could be used there too.
There was an Anglican Chant Psalm sung by the choir, lots of Elgar and other
Victoriana, and one of my favorite anthems "Greater Love" by John Ireland.
It should be noted that the reception was held in our parish hall -- the
celebrant made an announcement that only invitees were welcome, which might
influence Rick's decision. Lots of people left out the front door, as we did . .
.
Cheers,
Jim
