In a parish with only one priest, if the priest is suddenly ill and cannot preside at the holy Eucharist, I'd think the easier solution than morning prayer would be the liturgy of the word as specified in the BCP rubrics...seems less disruptive. If there's a choir, they might be able to sing the planned anthem as well.
