Always think of frost and tomatoes around my son's birthday - the 24. I was usually finishing canning tomatoes like crazy and getting ready to pick the green ones as we almost had a frost by then in Syracuse. With the climate wacky who knows what it's like there now by then.

Typical first killing frost around here is in just a couple of weeks. However, it's been in the mid-80's for the past week or so, and has yet to get below 45 at night. So hopefully it'll be a late this year so we'll have another week or two of tomatoes.

Saw a stand of goldenrod just coming in to tassel on Saturday
and I heard my mother's voice as clearly as if she were sitting
in the back seat.

"Goldenrod!
Six weeks to frost."
