But a real devotion, nonetheless.  I've seen such things as well.  A friend of mine teaches English literature to Santa Ana, CA, gangbangers, and he once wrote an article about his experiences, and mentioned that no matter how "bad" these kids are, many of them still have rosaries hanging from their rear view mirrors and crucifixes on necklaces around their necks.  No matter what, they just can't let go.
