I think one can make the case that Tito was the legitimate successor to the 
Hapsburg Emperor.  Pre World War I, the Austria-Hungary Empire was probably the 
most diverse country in the world -- many different religions and nationalities 
and languages, living in relative peace and calm. The British and French (and 
Americans) dissolving that empire using the nationalist model that "Civilized" 
Westerners believed in so ardently turned out to be an utter disaster. Tito 
managed to resurrect a bit of it.

The Hapsburg Empire was the correct model, I think. Imagine what it could have 
become if the Allies had made sure it stayed together, maybe making the Emperor 
a Constitutional Monarch, like we ended up doing in Japan after WW II.

The Ottoman Empire was somewhat similar, though collapsing under its own weight 
at the time. But dividing up the territory under a colonialist Imperative 
certainly has had terrible consequences, Starting with the consequent need for 
tyrants to keep things together with the phony-baloney colonial borders.
