To balance that, there are a growing number of builders who specialize in ‘aging in place’ by making modifications to one’s home to allow those living there to stay there. Marcy and I did that two years ago when it became clear that we would have to move or make changes to our living space. We brought in a builder and we made modifications to enable Marcy to live entirely on the main floor - ADA compliant bathroom downstairs, a ramp from the garage into the house, remove wall to wall carpeting and replace with hardwood (rustic oak), barn doors to close of what was the living room and is now our bedroom.
St. Bede’s adult formation in November this year will focus on aging and needs associated with that. Among those issues are aging in place, having a will, end of life planning, and one or two others.
