And here I just assumed everyone would know how to pronounce his name! He's 
a native of Plymouth. His father was Cape Verdean (very common in SE Mass.), 
hence the Portuguese name.

I read the book so long ago I don't remember a whole lot of it, but I do 
remember it being very good.

BTW, his name rhymes with Roams.

Portuguese names are pronounced funny. Lopes is pronounced
"lopsh" (short o).
