I think that's what I have, as well, Cady...Gmail with no ads. Spam goes into its own folder, which I generally just ignore.

At the very bottom of the gmail page is an option in the middle for
"basic HTML" - no ads, no background, no fuss. Also no chat, and no
other fancy options. I prefer mail plain.
