Short-term rewards count for alot in the workplace (think of
the times a colleague has stolen one of your best ideas and
got credit for it).
It's the responsibility of management to tell the eager
programmers "no." But I wonder if, in today's workplace,
management has the knowledge to assess programmers'
actual work. They may not have had a clue without a
whistleblower's assistance.
They're still responsible, though.
My psychic powers predict: forensics (in programming
as well as accounting) will be a big thing in this century.
The case study format should prepare people for managing
in today's environment, but the cases are still being written.
