Sometime you should do the Canadian side of Lake Superior. That is also spectacular and the crossing from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron is unforgettable.
That is where I met near relatives (we are shirt tail relatives of the Peltier clan--no direct Native American, but friendly contacts over the centuries. We are the Pelletier branch of the Peltier clan.)
I had the small totem pole I bought from a cousin(soi disant) I didn't the know the advantages that some Native American had. They were neither Canadian or US citizens, but had the advantages of both nations.
