Since DT is incapable of thought but merely acts and later (under pressure) tries to figure out what he's done, we are obligated, as thinking people, to take the shocking insinuation of assassination seriously.  He was not talking about gun addicts exercising their francise.  He was making an assassination "joke".  Period.
