Make note that he died earlier this month, according to his nephew.  Didn't want to make anyone sad about his illness -- or his family, apparently, about his death.  A bit odd chronologically, but very typical, I think, of someone as good and decent as dear late Gene.  "Everyone'll know eventually.  (Sigh.)  You all decide when would be a good time to tell them."
