It should also be noted that there's always been some degree of anti-Semitism in 
sports broadcasting -- consider all the guys using air names on ESPN, even 
today. And  sports "journalism" is the only newspaper job where writers use 
assumed names for the same reason.

There's always bee an hoary, anti-Semitic  theory among some broadcast 
executives and newspaper publishers that since Jews are a tiny, if not invisible 
minority in big-time sports, the audience won’t buy reporting from someone who 
is obviously Jewish.
