[Magdalen] Images and words about Mary

A former colleague of mine was an Italian-American Roman Catholic, and
she was amazed and confused by my use of the term "Saint Mary" to
refer to the BVM. She went on about how she had always heard and used
terms like "the Blessed Virgin Mary" or "Our Lady" but never "Saint
Mary." I guess she never encountered any of the many RC parish and
cathedral churches called "St. Mary's" (or officially "St. Mary," as
at some point the possessives were banned, apparently...I still think
"St. Mary Cathedral" sounds weird....should be "St. Mary's
Cathedral"). Here in Chicago there's a parish called "Saint Mary of
Perpetual Help." Not "Our Lady of Perpetual Help." So my friend was
somehow deprived of the term "St. Mary" at an early age, I guess! She
thought my use of "St. Mary" was some Protestant thing.
