Somewhat surprisingly, Martin Luther had much good to say
about the BVM. Just google Luther and Mary, and there are a lot
of references.
Not that at the grass roots level, Mary is a Lutheran subject very often.
I do suspect that in my families Lutheran parish churches, the very
appellation, "The Blessed Virgin Mary" would be met with sharp
disapproval. Of course, this is the Norwegian Lutheran province.
It may be a different story in Lutheran churches of German background.
In any case, most Lutheran synods have 15th August as a special
commemoration of Mary.
However, don't even think of "Mother of God", or, for that matter,
"Theotokas."
