I cherish a personal note from his wife.

After Madoff bankrupted the Elie Wiesel Foundation, I sent a small check
with a personal note. She wrote back, telling me they were receiving
contributions from all over, many as small as $5.00, and the outpouring had
helped them stay focused on the future during a very difficult time.

He was a much sought-after speaker here. And he pronounced his name
Vee-ZELL.
