So many of the mainstream USA non-RC denominations had the
problem of splitting because of political issues such as the USA Civil
War.

My Aunt Lulu was a delegate to the Methodist General Conference
in 1939 when the three major Methodist bodies reunited, and she
considered that event to be a high point in her life.

For that matter, though there was not a recognized formal split in
TEC, there was some going separate ways until they all got back
together.

There's also the ethnic issue with some of the Protestant groups
like the Methodist Episcopal Church. I suppose the same could be
said for the Polish National Catholic Church. In Scranton, PA, you
have the bizarre specter of the Polish ethnic RC Church and the
Metropolitan Cathedral of the Polish National Church staring at each
other over the corner of a city park.
