Much of NW Wisconsin was hit with a once in a century
torrent of up to nine inches of rain last week. Most of this
drainage funneled into the Saint Croix River, a major
Mississippi River tributary, which remarkably was largely
able to handle the outwash with only a minimum of
flooding.
This is big canoeing country, and from first hand accounts,
a number of canoe groups had a really memorable escalated
shoot down the Saint Croix. Fortunately, there were no
fatalities.
Maybe it will be another 100 years for such a freak event,
and maybe not.
David Strang.
