Well, I don't know if it's still true, but some years back I read that newspapers basically wrote at a fifth-grade reading level, because that was the average adult reading level in the US.
If that's still true, perhaps it explains why so many people are following Trump, regardless. They're getting all their info from Faux News and the local daily paper. Plus, Trump is fanning the flames of their fears...
