[Magdalen] weather + garden

Well, up here violets grow on any semi-moist, semi-open place with somewhat
acid soil - such as old logging roads. Back in Mass., they grew throughout
the lawn. Here in VT, we do have violets of various types, but the main,
ubiquitous woods flower is trout lilies, which often carpet the forest
floor.

The only signs of spring up here so far are that most all the snow is gone,
and the sugar shacks are boiling furiously. Nothing green yet - but soon!

I don't think I've ever seen violets growing on a slope. Sounds pretty,
though.

They seem to prefer boggy conditions.
But maybe that's just in New England.
