Great article referencing this privacy matter in The Living Church - I read the March 20 issue this morning while sitting at Yale/Berkeley Div School

I'm sure you're right about this, but in this day of complete openness
and instant information, we expect more information than is available.
And on the subject of church secrecy:
I must confess I feel short changed in the matter of the sudden and
totally unexpected departure of the O/C of famous Church of Saint Mary
the Virgin, NYC, after he moved from England to take the job, and was
only 5 months or so into the position when he resigned.
I have given modest gifts to that church, and have
always admired its music program. It seems odd that the St. Mary's
authorities couldn't inform the wider congregation that the departure was
due to a personal matter, or policy conflict, or whatever, without going
into
great detail. The absolute silence other than to announce his departure
tends to leave me puzzled with the apparent secrecy.
David Strang.
