We did well that year except when we encountered the negative
team from what was then Eau Claire Central High School.  They  had
a young man, an absolutely killer speaker who could convince anybody
of anything.
 
When I moved to Eau Claire about 30 years later, his mother was an
active communicant of the Cathedral Parish.  One day I  innocently
asked her about her son, Russell (the silver tongued speaker).   She
told me, with a tear in the eye, that he had committed suicide some
years earlier.
 
What a waste of a brilliant mind.
