If this doesn't require the parents to pay for this gap year, all well  and
good.  If, though, it simply means the graduate/student just  lollygags
around looking picturesque, I certainly wouldn't go for it as a  parent.
I would hope such persons would attempt to support themselves during
this gap year.
 
If the family is wealthy, as ex-Presidents tend to be, if with nothing else 
 than
their handsome US pension income, then it's a free world, and the
Obamas undoubtedly can afford it.
