Ummm - it does seem to work - that, along with used kitty litter. 
(Fortunately, house and yard are not visible from road or neighbors <g>).

Reminds me of the (possibly apocryphal, possibly not) story of the guy in
Chicago who was doing battle with a backyard groundhog who was getting into
his small garden plot. He'd tried just about everything he could think of
or been told, to no avail. One night he'd had a few too many beers and
when thinking about that groundhog became just too much, he went out and
peed down the groundhog's hole. The groundhog shot out the other hole, took
off, and was not seen again in his yard.
