My grandfather Leon moved in with us in the late 40's. He was buried in
Stillwater, and was entitled to free passage for the final trip.>>>>>>>>
Some additional railroad trivia:
Besides the 17 mile spur of the NP from Rush City, MN to my home town
(Grantsburg, WI) there were two others off the same mainline from the
Twin Cities to Duluth/Superior. They were Wyoming, MN to Taylors Falls,
MN and White Bear Lake to Stillwater. All three are gone, the latter two
about 1948. Soo Line served Saint Croix Falls across the state line, but
that was abandoned in 1961 so the twin villages, Taylors Falls and Saint
Croix
Falls are without rail service.
It turns out that there is valuable fracking sand in that area, so Soo Line
has
begun to restore some of its old lines, much to the displeasure of the
residents
near the tracks.
