We had something like that in our downtown high-rise apartment. All we
had was the bowl, with the plumbing disappearing into the wall, and
lots of flushing power. I assumed the tank of clean water for the
whole system was up on the roof and served all toilets in the
building, but I could very well have been wrong about that.

That building may have been some sort of hotel when built.
