It's called Remembrance Day this side of the pond. I can remember back
to the days when it was always marked on November 11, irrespective of
which day of the week it was, then the observation was moved to the
nearest Sunday. In the past few years there has been a move towards 2
minutes silence wherever you happen to be Today I was in school for a
day of meetings - three of them back to back. We adjourned the first
meeting to join the whole school for a special Assembly which was very
moving. The bugle (actually trumpet call before and after the silence
was played by one of the children and during the silence a series of
short video clips was shown of various people holding a poppy
(traditionally sold and worn over here) in front of their lips. The
whole thing was led by children aged 9-12.
