Yes, and on CBC Radio Two, I used to listen to Bob Kerr (think Karl
Haas gone sort of growly and curmudgeonly) saying he's tired of
hearing PACH-el-bell and harumphing that "There isn't a dictionary in
the WORLD that allows THAT."

But the "wrong" pronunciation endures. Back in East Cupcake, I
remember a letter to the editor of the WKAR-FM program guide asking
about a piece the writer had heard "and the composer's name sounded
liked--sorry for this--'Taco Bell.'"

This was of course before Google, discussion lists, and so on.
