[Magdalen] Next Steps

Al-Jazeera English has an interesting Listening Post episode this week,
focused on the US Media and their role - at times unwitting - in promoting
the "Trump phenomenon" throughout the election cycle.

Very few were prepared to admit openly that Trump was fantastic for ratings
(only the CBS guy). But they went far enough back in history to explore the
lack of any kind of public broadcasting in the USA; to the scrapping of the
"fairness" regulations by Reagan; and to the scrapping of anti-monopoly
rules by Bill Clinton.

The number of broadcasting companies has shrunk to a mere handful and those
also own huge chunks of the Internet.

Trump won because he was good for business, but as President he will be a
lot less interesting.

I think a lot of Americans are about to be shocked - shocked I tell you!! -
to discover that a businessman is actually LESS honest than a politician,
and that now he's got his fish on the hook so to speak, Trump will just go
ahead and make deals.

If I were in the USA I would be crying too (heck, we are crying here
plenty) - but yesterday I got to thinking about Ted Cruz and wondering
whether things could not perhaps have been worse all round.
