In some places, including among some of my relatives, a space alien
would probably guess that Christmas is about the perfect arrangement
of colorful objects in a "living room," and some sort of vaguely good
feeling that goes with that, and that anything disturbing that
"perfect Christmas" will "ruin our Christmas." Also, people take turns
"having Christmas," so they're the ones whose arrangement of colorful
objects must be especially perfect.
