[Magdalen] Hey, you, in Matthew's path!

My grandparents lived on Sea Island for a number of years, and I don't
recall much of any problems from hurricanes. Hurricanes coming up the coast
tend to miss Georgia as it's relatively farther west - unlike, say Cape
Hatteras, which is often directly in the path.

There was, however, considerable erosion over the years of the beach at the
north end of Sea Island (where my grandparents' "cottage" - No. 1 - was),
with rocks, etc., replacing the disappearing dunes next to beach-front
houses - which my grandparents' fortunately wasn't.

Friends of our from church in Mass. supposedly left today for a vacation
trip to Hilton Head, Charleston & Savannah. That may not go so well.

I pray for the safety and the sparing of damage along the Carolinas.

Periodically through the years I have had advertisements for retirement
at the various luxury retirement developments along the outer islands
of South Carolina and Georgia. They look especially tempting in the
winter, tucked as they are in the tall pines and at water's edge.
I'm thinking of such as Hilton Head, and Sea Island.

I wonder, though, how safe they are from this sort of storm?
