In 1980 there was a "cyclone" or straight line wind that struck a narrow
strip about two miles wide and 25 miles long from Menomonnie through
Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the latter being my home at the time.
It was also at the height of the carnage from the Dutch Elm Disease,
and half the trees in those cities were dead or dying and leafless.
So all the dead trees remained standing, and good trees in leaf of other
species were taken down.
