I'm one of those who loves all the preparation. Nothing makes me happier
than picking out the place settings, linens, etc. and prepping to welcome
guests. I usually set the table 1 or 2 days in advance and don't mind at
all staying up late to iron napkins, etc.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It takes one china/sterling/crystal person to know another.

In my heyday I was on a first name basis with the sales staff
in those departments at Gump's, San Francisco. They greeted
me like a long lost cousin each time I passed through the doors.

I had 4 sets of fine china (2 English, Portuguese, and Danish) and
4 sets of sterling. I am partial to Czech crystal. Nearly all of it
has now gone to daughter and son. I can't take it with me. I only
hope Saint Peter greets me with the same warmth and enthusiasm
as the sales staff at Gump's.

In any case, I always set the table for formal dining affairs - my ex-wife
recognized my talent for that. There were a lot of fancy candlesticks,
flowers, and table runners made from Japanese obi's. It was all just
a bit overboard for Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Eat your heart out,
Buckingham Palace!
