Yep. ("...for the most part...") I think it has something to do with the
Basques and Roland and the Pyrenees. I would never make it out of France,
so I would just do the Spanish part if I were to do it. I suppose some
retired civil engineer could design a pathway over those mountains, but it
would probably add about eighty miles of back and forth trekking just to
get up and down the slopes. I can imagine how enthusiastic the locals would
be with all those switchbacks. Heck, just take a bus to Spain ....
