I can't really accurately answer the question.  However, with
such poignant words so appropriate to Good Friday and 
the crucifixion, with their further strong association for my
father's firmly Methodist family, I might be well moved to  tears.
This hymn was a favorite in the Methodist Sunday School, and
its use was not limited to Good Friday, but rather sung  year
