Does anybody remember the particulars of an incident when Gen. Lee was the only white person in a church (Episcopal) who stayed and took communion at the same altar rail as a black person? I forget the particulars and the location. As for Grace’s mention of the large NC Nazi participation in the C’ville outrage, it’s difficult to be a native of NC these days. NC was once the progressive Southern state. My husband and I came to Syracuse in 1959 (he) and 1960 (I) after we married. Young people from the South in technical/scientific fields often moved to the Northeast or the West in those days because that’s where they were hired to work. Now, young people who grew up here head to the Research Triangle in NC. Anyhow, if anybody remembers the Lee communion story, please tell it.
