[Magdalen] Hello?

I have made arrangements to go to Washington, DC next weekend for the
Ministers March for Justice. Just so you know, VTS has guest rooms
available for about $110 per night -- probably very cheap for the DC area.
But I'm staying free. I wrote to the social justice minister at St.
Columba's church (I interviewed there for a position lo these 15 years
ago), and they found me someone to stay with in Chevy Chase. I feel very
resourceful.

I've had a hot and not entirely pleasant summer. I've been eating way off
my food program, and have gained about 20 pounds in the last couple of
years. Sigh. Everyone has their issues in life, and I guess mine is my
weight. But I'm back on my program and on a downward course again. I feel
better and sleep better already. It has been hot, and this new apartment,
while bright and airy, is in a brick building -- and I forgot how brick can
absorb the heat. But I've done okay with a fan. My dog's getting old -- a
little lame, a little senile, a little incontinent. Not great, but she's
still a really sweet girl, and I guess it's a little like a marriage -- for
better and for worse. She's about 14 now (who knows for sure? A
fully-grown stray when I got her from the shelter in Tennessee), so there's
no shame in it.

Still sober -- 2 years and counting -- or almost not counting anymore,
except I never want to forget.

I've been given a (relatively) clean bill of health from the urologist and
endocrinologist and my internist (gallstones, but no symptoms, so no
action). I still have a couple more tests, but my next appointments are 6
and 8 months, unless something arises. One more dr. appt, and I'm done for
awhile. I don't like it at all. I have a friend who seems to kind of like
the round of dr. appts and tests that she always seems to have -- but I
don't like it one bit.

I am in a Jungian Women's study group, and this time we're doing "Jung's
Map of the Soul" by Murray Stein. I think it's a little more than I ever
wanted to know about Jung's theories. But it's a good foundation, and I
needed that, since I am an ardent student of the feminine, especially the
sacred feminine. At home I'm reading "The Camino" by Shirley MacLaine
(yeah, she's a little nuts -- why I thought it would be a fairly straight
memoir, I'll never know). Just finished "Paris to the Pyrenees" by David
Downie, and "The Camino" was on my shelf (recommended years ago by a
friend), so it seemed a natural followup. Next I want to finish "Living
with a Wild God" by Barbara Ehrenreich. I started that years ago before I
moved, with my study group there. It has been a good summer for bedtime
reading.

Still doing yoga 2-3 times a week, and I volunteer a couple of hours a week
in the garden of the Himalayan Institute, which is right down the street
from me. Got to go now to a meeting.
