Grace, I would almost certainly take the wrong approach.  I’d remind them (perhaps in a sermon if you’re invited back) that we are political creatures.   Just about everything we do is political.  I think your detractors are conflating their personal beliefs with TEC beliefs, and they either forget, or are unaware, that TEC is a body with wide ranging beliefs.

It seems that you have both the high road and the position to tell them to put on their grown up pants before they come to services.
