Interesting. Our parish hasn't generally used personal names in the
PotP; I've assumed this was to avoid saying the name of a female
bishop but that may be a cynical projection on my part (or could well
be true). Lately, if a form is used that names bishops. we've had Bp.
Katharine mentioned (gasp!) more often than not (until of course Bp.
Michael took over). But we haven't tended to use all the government
leaders' names. I did like that our parish in East Cupcake always
named the president, governor, and mayor. The mayor attended an
ecumenical service there once (she was the parish administrator for
the big RC university parish) and said afterward she was very touched
to hear that she was prayed for by name at All Saints'.
If we did all the names, quite soon we'd be praying for "Donald, our
president; Bruce, our governor; and Rahm, our mayor," with many sneers
for each, I'm sure. Rahm might be the least despised of the three but
is still quite unpopular. Probably best we don't name any of them
usually.
