Not knowing the practice or schedule for selecting hymns in that particular church, I can't be sure of this, but when I was church music director and later parish priest, hymns were selected pretty far ahead, paying attention to how they fit the readings.

Occasionally there would be remarkable examples of synchronicity  with world events or something else, but in those cases we generally gave the credit to the Holy Spirit!  Your example would seem to be one of those.
