I nearly passed out when I learned a normal-seeming guy I knew made $483K
in one year from a textbook! And then there was his teaching contract. And
his surgical charges. And his lecture fees. He worked his tuchas off. No
time for golf or the other activities doctors are criticized for.

You should have been paid better :-(
Teachers are never paid what they're worth.
