I maybe told you this story already.

A friend was at a reception just after Nixon was elected. Gore Vidal was
also present. Someone asked him if, now that Nixon would be taking
residence on Pennsylvania Avenue, he'd be moving to Italy for the duration.

"God, no," he replied. "I wouldn't miss the next four years for anything."

Whenever I choke at the thought of the next four years, I remember Gore
Vidal.
