Many of you know of the marvelous Loome Theological Bookstore that for
years occupied an old Swedish Covenant (= Evangelical Covenant) church
in downtown Stillwater, Minnesota (near St. Paul). A few years ago
they moved out of the church building and out to a building on
farmland nearby. They're now moving back downtown (but haven't
announced which building yet):

I fondly recall a visit to the old church location. They had phoned me
to say they had obtained a nice copy of a five-line-staff-notation
edition of the Liber Usualis (Gregorian chant compendium) and could I
confirm my shipping information. Well, I was so thrilled, I said,
"I'll pick it up on Saturday," and I rented a car and drove up across
Wisconsin to get the book (and stay a couple of nights in St. Paul).
Of course I bought more than the Liber from their vast inventory. Also
got a pristine like-new slip-covered large-print hardcover of the
Church of England's 1928 Proposed BCP for $40, a steal. And a few
other wonders.
And attended a rare USA performance of Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius" at
St. Mark's Cathedral. And experienced a midnight fire alarm at the
Holiday Inn, which included some nice conversation time in the parking
lot with a couple of very handsome athletes who had evacuated their
rooms in their white briefs only. (I, oddly, took 20 seconds to get
fully dressed before departing my room.) I did offer them my light
jacket but they assured me they were all right in almost nothing. Fine
with me... (There had been a fire in the kitchen, and it was put out
within a few minutes.)
So Loome has some treasured associations for me. :)
