The Orthodox complications are made more "Byzantine" by the absence of centralized
rules for many things, such as  Ordination.  For example, there is small monastery
in the next town about 6 miles by car but really just a thousand feet higher on top
of the mountain (We're in the valley).  They had their own bishop, until one day I saw
a newspaper article that their bishop was now an archbishop.  How can there be an
archbishop for a monastic community of 4?  The bishop had apparently just declared
himself an archbishop.
